Facemask straps won't stay connected

Bought a new facemask (CCM FM 580) and the side straps that affix it to the helmet (CCM Tacks Prime) don't stay connected and come off very easily. I would have thought that the clips that the mask came with would be sized appropriately with the connectors they came with (or that these clips would be standardized) but apparently not. The only thing that has worked so far was to put a piece of clear tape over the screwed in part, which added enough thickness for the clip to stay put.

Does anyone has any tips for how to fix this issues?
