Is there a way to reference a file from prior messages when editing a message in the same conversation?

I usually edit messages to avoid rotting the context. Especially when working with multiple files or even different versions of the same file, I find myself having to re-add files that I included in past messages. But editing a message doesn't allow adding new files to it. So maybe there's a way I can reference those files that already exist in previous messages?

I understand I can go to the library, find the file there and start a new conversation about it but I'm trying to keep working on the current conversation, by editing an existing message in it.
