fixing the grammys?

Discussion

hi rock people! my friends and i are doing a project just for fun in which we “fix” the grammys categories to be more representative of genres that aren’t just top-charting pop music (which i say as a card-carrying, pop girly-worshipping gay). i was kinda sad to see that the grammys only have six “rock” categories out of nearly a hundred, and i thought you guys might be able to help tell me what’s missing. i know that award shows are mostly stupid and unimportant, but i think they’d at least be more interesting if they celebrated great lesser-known or niche artists. with that in mind… what distinctions/expansions would be helpful under the rock umbrella? even just from reading this sub’s flares there’s at least a dozen subgenres; should all of them be their own category, or could some of them be combined?

please lemme know what you think! i’m looking forward to learning from you guys. just for reference, i’ll post the current categories below. i’ll probably try to see if some of those subgenres have their own subreddits and ask their opinions too.

rock, metal & alternative:
best rock performance (1 song, for singers/band)
best rock song (1 song, songwriters)
best rock album (performers, writers, producers)
best metal performance
best alternative music performance
best alternative music album
