Help! Car leasing suggestions
Hi all! My beloved 2012 Subaru is getting to be too expensive. I put $2000 into the exhaust in July, and was quoted $1688 today to fix an EVAP leak, fix the oil leaking toward my sparkplugs, replacement sparkplugs, and a new engine filter. When I asked if they could foresee any other costs in the near future, they quoted at least another $1300 for new rear breaks and a tightened ball joint + alignment. They also warned me that the rear frame is starting to rust. Additionally, an ongoing issue is that I cannot drive for more than 1h-1.5h straight without my car eating up the engine oil (smaller drives are fine and as long as I stick to that, regular oil changes get me by). The technician said he probably wouldn't keep putting money into it.
I've been trying to save for a car since the July incident but did not think I'd only have about 3 months to do so. I don't have enough to buy a car up front, and I'm nervous I'll have bad luck and get a dud off of Facebook marketplace.
To me, my options are:
-
Lease a car
-
Finance a car
-
Fix my current car and hope for the best
I may need to make a quick decision. I need to consider increased insurance rates (I currently pay $100/mo and I know that will be impossible to find moving forward), interest rates, and an increase in service costs due to warranty requirements.
I don't have a lot in my savings at the moment but do make enough I could handle some extra monthly expenses. I'm hoping not to spend more than $1000 a month (including monthly payments and insurance).
My questions for you:
What dealerships do you recommend, or not, and why?
Out of my 3 options, what would you choose? Is there a secret 4th option I'm not aware of?
If you have leased cars, what has your experience been like?
Do you recommend any insurance companies?
All comments and suggestions appreciated...thank you!!
