Cat an Hills Diet

So my cat has been on Hills Prescription Diet for 6 months and ate a small pieces brisket( store bought) that may have been seasoned with garlic and onion powder. Spoke to the vet who said I need to monitor him for 7 days for signs of toxicity. Has anyone experienced this?
