Does V for Vendetta hold up, or has it become too much of a meme for it's own good?

It's been ages since I last saw the movie and I'm thinking about adding it to my list. I think back in it's day a lot of people might have said it's social commentary was it's main selling point but trying to think back to anything specific in the movie the one thing that comes to mind is the main character's "Ideas are bulletproof" scene, which kind of pairs with the Guy Fawkes mask becoming endlessly memeified; which makes me want to draw comparisons to Heath Ledger's Joker and how that performance wildly out preformed it's own film. Is it campy fun, or does it project "i'm 14 and this is so deep" vibes?
