90 minutes of rain apparently broke the Las Vegas airport
Sitting in the airport waiting to board Southwest at Harry Reid and holy shit, what a mess.
You got about 90 minutes of rain and it felt like the entire airport infrastructure just threw its hands up and quit.
Delays, confusion, nobody seemingly knowing what was happening, and employees who ranged from unhelpful to just outright rude.
Southwest and Harry Reid seemed to be in some sort of competition to see who could ruin your day more efficiently.
And look, I understand weather causes delays. Planes can’t fly safely in certain conditions. That’s not really my complaint. My issue is how spectacularly everything seemed to fall apart around the rain. Southwest agent said no one could work the tarmac because of the lighting.
Extreme weather isn’t exactly going to become less of a problem over the next few decades. If 90 minutes of rain can cause this much chaos, climate change is going to kick this place’s ass.
The weirdest part was how little useful communication there seemed to be. People can deal with delays. What makes everyone lose their minds is being delayed, getting conflicting or nonexistent information, and then being treated like an asshole for asking what’s going on.
Vegas was great. Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters put on an amazing show in Allegiant Stadium, which was the best stadium I’ve visited.
Getting out of Vegas? Absolute shitshow.
