Diagnosed with ADHD abroad. How did you get a Concerta prescription in Davis w/ UC SHIP?

Meta

Hi! I'm current on my 3rd quarter here as an international student.

Right before flying back for fall, due to growing speculations of adhd (my last quarter was the last straw), I got assesssed for adhd in China during the holiday. My doctor started me on concerta, and I was provided with clinic records, raiting scale results, and a stamped diagnosis.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to keep treatment going here as I know what a headache UC SHIP and the SHCS referral system could be I'm aware that the SHCS does not evaulate nor prescribe for ADHD, so the route seems to be a referral to an outsite psychiatrist.

However, so far the whole process is rather confusing to me;

1. How did you actually get the referral via SHCS? Through a primary care visit, a counseling appointment, or some faster way?

2. Did an outside psychiatrist accept your foreign diagnosis and continue the medication? Or did they make you redo the evaluation or get psychoeducational testing first?

3. Any trouble filling Concerta or generic methylphenidate ER around Davis? Is the SHCS pharmacy a good bet?

  1. Which psychiatrists or clinics take UC SHIP and are actually accepting new adult ADHD patients? That could be in Davis, Sacramento, Woodland, or telehealth within CA. How long did you wait for a first appointment, or diagnosis?

Extra: if you used a foreign diagnosis for SDC accommodations, did they accept it as is?

I'll update this post with what I find out, so the next person searching doesn't have to piece it together. Thanks!
