Is this a good answer to, "How do you cope with stress?"
How do you cope with stress?
Firstly, it's important to address how important stress management is in medicine. Being a doctor is highly pressured and in many cases, doctors work extremely long hours. Therefore, it's important for doctors to mitigate this stress in some way, as build up of stress can lead to burnout, which could lead to disastrous consequences, including impaired attention and working memory, and also irritability, which could strain essential doctor-patient relationships. Recognising the signs of stress can allow medical professionals to avoid burnout, and preserve good mental health. Some common signs of stress include headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Personally, to avoid stress, I typically read non-fiction books. I particularly enjoy reading books from the medieval time, for example The Plantagenets or the Hollow Crown. These books are important to me as I've enjoyed reading history from a young age, and they've been an invaluable way to calm my mind down by providing an escape from any worries I'd been preoccupied with that day, as well as being very humorous. Alongside my family and friends, which also support me during times of stress, for example before exams, and also my tendency to complete tasks long before they're due, I have a very effective stress management system in place, which will allow me to withstand the many stresses that doctors face daily.
