Medical student, got into a research elective in Toronto: Help me go there
Help Me Pursue a Medical Research Opportunity in Canada
My name is Rohit Dhaka, and I am an MBBS student at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.
For the past several months, I have been working hard to find an opportunity to gain meaningful international research experience. I reached out to more than 250 researchers and institutions before finally receiving an invitation from Dr. Michael Cusimano at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto, to participate in a visiting research placement involving the TRACE study.
This opportunity means a lot to me. It will allow me to experience medical research in an international setting, learn from experienced researchers, and develop skills that I hope to carry forward throughout my medical career. The placement is unpaid, so I will be responsible for the expenses associated with travelling and staying in Canada.
This is where I need your help.
I come from a village background and a modest family. My father works hard to support our family and my education, but his income is limited and is primarily used to meet our family's regular expenses and my educational costs. While my family has always done everything possible to support my dreams, an additional expense of around ₹2,00,000 for an international research opportunity is beyond what we can comfortably afford.
I am therefore raising ₹2,00,000 to help cover essential expenses such as visa, flights, travel insurance, local transportation, food, and other costs associated with the research visit.
I have worked hard to reach this opportunity, and I don't want financial limitations to be the reason I have to let it go.
If you can contribute, even a small amount, it would genuinely help me. If you cannot contribute, simply sharing this fundraiser with others would mean a lot to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting my journey in medicine and research.
