Why do some people act like that?

Potentially Triggering Content (Discussion Welcome)

Trigger warning: racism, brief mention of SA, body shaming/weight shaming, and mentions of an ED (if that is triggering for you as I know it is triggering for me)

THIS WILL BE LONG

Im autistic (got the diagnosis in 2023) and since talking to more neurodivergent people ive realised there's this sub-category of autistic individuals that always annoys me.

There was this girl i went to school with, let's call her Liz. Liz was home-schooled from year 4-6, and she had just started semi-normal schooling again (she and I went to an acting school that had 20 people in total). But she managed to annoy everyone in the class before the end of week 5.

On the SECOND DAY of school we were doing an activity on how to be welcoming to others and what could be considered rude. My group was presenting when we asked the class to give an examlple of how they would feel if they got called a slur. Apparently Liz misheard it as 'give an example of a slur' and she yelled out without being called on, the slur for people who are native to our country. We were all deeply uncomfortable by this and went to the principle, who brushed it off as a miscommunication and used autism as an excuse.

A few weeks later we were setting up for our play. This time Liz managed to do a double kill. The teacher told us no more then 4 people were to sit on the prop bench as it was a bit unstable and couldn't hold too much weight. Liz got on the bench as the 5th person and when my classmate softly recommended that she get off. Liz replied 'its okay I dont weigh that much because im skinny, the teacher probably just meant it if we had 4 heavier people on here.' Mind you it was general knowledge (if not obvious by how weak the classmate was) that she had an ED. Once again when we mentioned it to the school they brushed it off.

(She also didnt know most of her line the night before the play, so instead of doing full run-throughs the director had to focus on getting Liz to learn her lines)

Another time when the class was doing an exercise where we change one thing about our play and see where it goes, Liz INSISTED on doing a 'but what if my character was secretly rich'. We all agreed that the scene in which it would be revealed didnt include all of our characters and therefore we could fairly do the exercise. She started crying and told the teacher that we were shutting her down. (We needed to include everybody). And so the teacher had to sit and watch us to make sure everyone's voice was heard.

Situations like this kept happening and whenever we tried to gently tell her no or that she did something wrong, she would use her autism as an excuse. (Half the class was diagnosed neurodivergent btw) Liz would trauma dump about her getting SA'd, tell someone they are dirty for wearing the same shirt 2 days in a row, and after I revealed my religion to her in a group chat SHE begged to join, she sent a 'meme' about turning to jesus.

Im now wondering if this is a 'unspoken' about community of people with autism, who always use autism as a defence or dont even try to learn from past mistakes.
