I wanna talk about Norway's culture regarding friendships and human interactions
Today I came across a post on reddit that was on my mind the whole day. Even though I'm not a very empathic person, it just brought out a sadness that I never felt for a random stranger on here. It was a person that said they had a really good norwegian friend, idk if it was an online or an IRL thing.
They basically talked all day, played stuff together, and this person even started learning norwegian for them. Whatever close friendship they had this bonded them even more, since they said they "weren't as funny in english".
And then somewhere at the end this user said something like "we are no longer in contact but that's ok, I wish him all the best". It felt as if the norwegian friend was the one that cut contact.
It reminded me of some swedish and norwegian friends that I have where although they are very nice and generally they're a calm and welcoming presence, they don't really feel "there". None of them give back in the friendship as much as they're given, as if you are treated more like a distraction that they use for their entertainment in that very moment, but you are almost erased from their world until you interact again.
To me it just seemed like that person put so much of their soul into that friendship, and going so far as learning another language to get to know another side of someone that you truly like is such a beauttiful thing... only to be ghosted or something like that? Whenever I meet a scandinavian person I already feel a bit uneasy and this certainly didn't help. Is this truly the normality?
