Posted on behalf of Excellon Resources - Grade takes the headlines, but the other word in the title of Mallay's first 2026 drill results was width, and that is the half worth sitting with. Mallay, the 100%-owned silver-lead-zinc mine in central Peru behind EXN.v and EXNRF,  
was historically mined above the 4090 Level using labour-intensive cut-and-fill methods on narrow vein widths (Aug 5, 2026 NR). What the rigs are hitting underneath it is thicker than that.



**The Widths (Sept 21, 2026 NR)**

* MLL26-004: 12.55 m @ 96 g/t Ag, 2.18% Zn, 0.65% Pb (178 g/t AgEq), including 4.00 m @ 236 g/t AgEq, providing depth continuity below the 4090 Level
* MLL26-015: 4.30 m @ 337 g/t AgEq within a wider 11.7 m interval grading 166 g/t AgEq
* MLL26-011: a broader 11.1 m interval @ 115 g/t AgEq containing 2.3 m @ 314 g/t AgEq in the Maria vein, roughly 280 m below the 4090 Level
* MLL26-005: 7.7 m of calc-silicate @ 129 g/t AgEq passing straight into 6.65 m of Isguiz vein @ 237 g/t AgEq, over 14 m of continuous mineralization
* Flanking zones on both sides of Isguiz are wider than the vein itself, sit outside the current resource estimate, and lie adjacent to development planned over the next three years
* Intervals are core lengths; true widths generally approximate 80% of core length



**Why Width, Not Just Grade**

* Wider stopes are what make mechanized mining work, and the company frames the results as supporting a planned shift to more mechanized mining and an updated mine plan
* Completing the 400 Ramp rehabilitation is expected to facilitate the transition from cut-and-fill to bench-and-fill mining over the longer term (Aug 5, 2026 NR)
* About 9,000 m drilled to date, with the rigs now on high-priority step-out targets, assays pending

The full hole-by-hole tables are in the company's September 21 news release, and they are worth reading alongside the updated mine plan when it lands. Mallay is still test-milling and ramping, but if those widths hold below 4090 they change the shape of how the mine gets mined, and that is the sort of detail that tends to show up later in a resource update rather than in a headline.
