Are black Roaches Really “Normal” in Houston homes?
I’m seeing a lot of dark/black roaches in my apartment kitchen at night, including around and even inside the refrigerator. I’ve complained to my landlord several times, but he keeps telling me that this is normal in Houston and that basically every apartment has roaches.
Is that actually true?
I understand that roaches are common in Houston because of the climate, but there seems to be a difference between occasionally seeing one and regularly finding multiple roaches in the kitchen. From what I’ve read, roaches are generally more active at night, and in apartment buildings they can also move between units through plumbing, walls, and other openings.
My landlord doesn’t seem willing to take any meaningful action. I've been complaining for more than 6 months. I’m seeing them almost every night, and finding them around/inside the refrigerator is especially concerning. Is this genuinely something you experience everywhere, or is it more of a problem with certain buildings or complexes?
And if your landlord kept dismissing a recurring roach problem as “normal for Houston,” how did you handle it?
