New cat owner looking to get one

Hello! I'm seeking advice, I'm new to cat owning but have been doing a ton of research before deciding if I'm fully ready or not but I wanted to ask real cat owners what they thought? Is there anything I should be worried about or know before? I'm planning on adopting either an adult cat or a 6 month old kitten.. any advice? thoughts? harsh realities?
