Canto X: Part 1 and Part 2 aftermath.
First off, I apologize if this post comes off a bit scattered. But, I thought I write 'em down while it is still fresh in my head...
Now that I finished Part 1 and Part 2 of Canto X, I thought I write it down to share my experiences and what I geeked out so much (particularly, the Voice actors of this particular Canto).
Going through each parts gave me so much interesting perspectives and viewpoints of Meursault's character and the tiny glimpses of his past. Despite we ain't there yet, I feel like I learned so much! I am already salivating for Part 3! And what path will Dante and Meursault take this time around, will be the Le Kaki? or the fourth faction: Le Neant? the faction that worships the "Sun"? Or, will it be something else entirely?
Part 1 was about helping the Le Noir thwarting Le Rouge's plans to bring about their "god" and eventually Preserving the Grand Magasin Sisyphe. When I mean Preserving, I mean achieving death through stagnation by becoming literal trees. But, this part was also very vanilla, as Meursault stayed the exact same following Dante's orders and barely giving his input on everything. We saw tiny glimpses here and there but nothing major. The progression was very A to B. The Le Noir have this very downright elitist snob but very faithful beliefs in their Obsidian God. Whatever their god will it, it shall be done. Not gonna lie, as I was playing through Part 1, I was almost rooting for them throughout the Canto and towards the end of Part 1...Til I realized what the ending meant for them as a whole.
If Le Noir was all about preservation then Le Rouge was all about desire, impulse and instinct. And in Part 2, things got interesting.
Now, from what we know so far is that Meursault killed his mother because she ordered him to as she was on the verge of losing her mind potentially through her distorting. And through her, we now know WHY Meursault behaves this way, as this is his defensive mechanism of sorts taught by his Maman. But, part 2 shows us a different side of Sinner No. 5. Here, Meursault (and by extension the sinners) have taken on a mentor/father position to the newborn crimson god: Pwie. And do get some rather cute moments with the little tyke.
I felt that Meursault in part 2 was rather emotional (Which is also very funny in hindsight because red is also said to be an emotional colour) giving out more of his thoughts, viewpoints and pretty much caring Pwie in his own way. And we saw that Meursault is shown to be very defiant of the "Sun".
The entire part was very much paying homage to Fear and Hunger 1 and its Ending A, where in that game the little girl ascends to the God of Fear and Hunger and brings about a new age for humanity...Here though? Not so much.
As Pwie ascends, Buffet emerges. And despite promising us a way to the 6th floor, Buffet's desires and hunger eclipses the matured Crimson god's go to further. And in the end, it becomes an All-You-Can-Buffet. And so...It resets yet again.
And there's also Jeanne, who seemingly yearns for something genuine instead of experiences of others.
Now, on to my nerd out!
This Canto from the start has been...Absurd. But! In a good way! The over the top fashion brands mixed with religious undertones gave me a good chuckle throughout the playthrough and I think it is also a jab at people who makes ludicrously expensive brands and people who buy swear by them religiously. Now that I think of it, the whole Canto feels a jab at over-consumerism.
The NPC designs...My goodness I love them to death! It's so weird and yet creative! From an One-Legged-Sharply Dressed woman to a Four legged Armoured Centur Woman...To a Crimson Overlord devil looking thing....AND PALETTE! Annette is my second favourite!
I HOPE Y'ALL GAVE HER THE SCISSORS INSTEAD OF FIGHTING HER SISTER...IF YOU DID, YOU ARE A MONSTER.
LOOK AT HER. AND THE VOICE ACTING MY GOD- I CAN'T-
Okay, first thing outta the way...I found out after I put out my Nocturnal sweeping voice cast, that Verner may or may not be voiced by the VA I mentioned in my post. I have received so many DMs...I know I gave my thoughts on misinformation regarding the VAs and here I am making the same exact mistake...I DEEPLY apologize for that I will be more careful as well as be mindful of it going forward!
NOW ONTO THE VAS of CANTO X. GOOD LORD, SO MANY FAMILIAR VOICE ACTORS! I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THEY MANAGED TO GET SO MANY WELL KNOWN VAS AS WELL AS THE FAMILIAR ONES! GAH, I CANNOT WAIT TO MAKE A VA POST AFTER CANTO X IS DONE.
....This girl's core workout routine must be insane. I bet she has 20 abs.
