Some days ago, I commented on u/forgiuse post about how the government didn't know how to advertise the country with video games (mostly they advertised games from China or South Korea), and the games that actually advertise Vietnam were either bare minimum or straight up terrible. Now after I watch this video from VTV4 on Facebook, my statement is more correct than ever.

They showed 2 games in the video, while I found these 2 games weren't that bad, they weren't good either, just bare minimum. The first game was basically just an MMORPG with simple characters designs and gameplay. Basically the Vietnamese version of MapleStory. And the 2nd game... was basically just Vampire Survivors with Vietnamese characters. Not to mention, the 2nd game was made and published by VTC (they were infamous for telling the government to block Steam).

I was also surprised to see Vietnam was on the 33rd for countries that published the most games to the world, and our biggest customers were from India, Brazil and Indonesia. The problem is all 3 countries are mostly casual players, they really don't care about the game. They just play to kill time, and then delete once they are bored.

While I do appreciate the government is knowledgeable about the importance of video games as an art, this isn't enough for us to advertise Vietnam around the world. And with the VNG version of Roblox, the Steam blockade situation and the difficulty of publishing games in Vietnam, it will just make it even more difficult. Unless we have original games that blow the world's mind, like what China did with Black Myth Wukong, this will take more time, effort, and more knowledge from the government about video games.

(Rant) That's not how you advertise Vietnam with games
