Pre-med Environment at college station and transferring to main campus.
Hi! I’m a pre-med student at Texas A&M McAllen, and I was wondering what being pre-med at College Station is like.
I originally wanted to transfer to the main campus, but everyone tells me that I should stay in McAllen but I fell like their opinions are biased. They keep telling me it’s better for building connections with professors, the classes are smaller, and you don’t have to apply for clubs or fight for opportunities like you do in College Station. There are only around 400 students here, compared to the thousands of students in College Station.
However, there are also very limited opportunities in McAllen. There are literally only around 7 student organizations, and there aren’t nearly as many opportunities for clubs, research, and other pre-med experiences compared to College Station. I was hoping to hear from people who currently attend College Station or have attended in the past about their experiences as pre-med students.
I’m honestly scared of making the wrong decision. I really want to go to College Station because I feel like there would be so many more opportunities, but what scares me is how many other students are also pre-med and how competitive everything might be.
I want to do what’s best for my career and for getting into medical school. I also feel like McAllen is really small the campus is basically two small buildings and sometimes I wonder if I’m missing out by not being in College Station.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially from pre-med students who have attended either campus!
