Points.. too many (oh noooo)

Hi all, so a change from the most common posts I will not be covering: why is there no bin space or how do I reach CP at the right point.

So I fly SW a fair amount, work pays, it's not glamorous but I do end up with quite a few points. The wife and I do our best to take advantage of the points we do earn.

Recently every time we go away we are stung by hotel pricing.

So I know having just found a hotel we had booked, on SW portal I would achieve only 0.73 c per point Vs usually between 1.1-3.5 for flights (with CP), would it be stupid to burn some points and save real hotel cost?

Or is there a better sneaky way to spend points / boast the value?

Any wild ideas out there? Appreciate your thoughts.
