Phrasing Just/Recently?
How long did you say “my spouse just died” vs “my spouse recently died”?
My husband died in mid May, so 4.5 months ago. I said “just died” last week and realized it’s been long enough that that phrase isn’t really relevant anymore, I guess? It still feels like just, but I think I’ve moved into the recently category. I feel like it’ll always feel like just.
I know it’s entirely subjective, I’m just (lol) conflicted and curious what others’ sentiments are.
I’m also a notorious dumbass who’ll regularly forget phrases that tie to the thing I’m describing. For instance, for the first ~month I kept calling him my ex husband because we weren’t technically married anymore… My friend finally was like “you want the word late not ex” and I’m like “oh shit, you’re right 😮” lmao.
