Another deep dive into Porsche colours, because apparently I have a hard time leaving Paint to Sample alone.

This time it’s Nordic Gold Metallic, a colour I’ve always found particularly interesting. Photo by seamusjhickey. The image really shows how much the colour can change depending on the light. It has that warm seventies Porsche vibe, but somehow still looks very modern.

I dug into the history of the colour and found a few details that I thought were worth sharing. Nordic Gold Metallic is a warm, coppery gold with just a touch of yellow, orange and red. To me, it sits somewhere between classic metallic gold and the colour of a cold pilsner catching the afternoon sun. Definitely gold, but not the kind of gold that wants to shout.

The colour made its modern Porsche comeback in the mid to late 2000s, appearing on the 997 generation 911, the 987 Boxster and Cayman, and the Cayenne GTS. It became especially memorable as the communication colour for the 997 Targa 4S.

Today, Nordicgoldmetallic remains part of Porsche’s Paint to Sample palette, giving modern Porsches a wonderfully retro touch without looking stuck in the past.
And there’s a nice bit of history behind it.
Porsche describes Nordic Gold as a kind of spiritual successor to the Gold Metallic shades used on the 911 and 914 in the early 1970s. So while the name might sound Scandinavian, the inspiration is very much Porsche. A little seventies warmth, a modern metallic finish and just enough colour to make you stop and look twice.

What do you guys think of Nordic Gold? Would you spec a Porsche in this colour?

I post a different Porsche colour every day over on Instagram, so if you enjoy this kind of deep dive into Porsche colours, you might enjoy that too.
