Converting pdf to Word

I interviewed today for a Legal Secretary position that I really want & the attorney asked me if I knew how to convert a PDF into Word. I said yes and he was like “really? You’d be surprised how many people I ask that and they don’t know how”….. am I missing some here? This should be an easy task right??? What if it’s a password protected pdf???
