So I’ve developed a bad habit of checking
“this is how you don’t play” videos after i finish games and two days ago i finished MGS1

It was truly an amazing experience, although with outdated themes here and there it still aged gracefully and withstood the test of time

Then i checked TIHYDP for MGS1 and oh boy

I was expecting bad gameplay i was expecting the “ching chong” racism and i was expecting the emotional disconnect - but not to this absurd level

Im aware this was a younger dsp but man he was still a full grown man then

Id consider myself to have reasonably thick skin on the internet and pretty good mental resolve

But after seeing how we responded to mantis opening up after defeating him legitimately pissed me insanely off for the first time

Mantis venting on the verge of death admitting he was a man with no future nor past only living in the cruel moment

To peek into his father’s mind and only see hate and disgust from his father towards him was incredibly heartbreaking

The idea of him working for the FBI as a telepathic integrator to catch serial killers just to have that gift corrupt his soul and twist it into the thing he worked to catch was gut wrenching

Then to see dsp reacting to all that with “haha piss jokes” and “haha stomp on his balls” was just…made me fume a bit.

Hell even otacon admitting to snake that he got into science because of his love for Japanese anime robots and the passion to use that gift to help mankind, instead of following in the shadows of his predecessors and work on nuclear weaponry

The idea of otacon being kept in the dark about the real intentions of metal gear and its actual purpose of being a walking nuclear weapon instead of a mobile missile interception machine

But instead have shady string pulling political figures twisting and manipulating otcan’s pure naive desires and turning it into tools of death and destruction

Just to have dsp say “what a cringe loser” “shut the fuck up when does the game start?” Makes this guy 1002739% more insufferable

Is dsp stunted and incapable of diving into more than surface level emotions?

Or does he actually have the ability to do so but just refuses to?

I was always familiar with dsp…but young dsp was a different “beast”…..

Darksydephill can’t derive emotional parallels from video games to real life
