When to apply for a post-call position?

Hi all,

I’m currently in my third month articling and am just wondering at what point should we start applying for a post-call position. I would get called in June 2027.

I’m still trying to figure out if I’m a good fit at my current organization. I do like it but at the same time want to keep my options option. I’ve been told hire-back is not guaranteed and it’s a possibility if you perform well. The thing is though that in the past 3-4 years none of the previous articling students were hired back even though everyone says they were really great so I don’t have expectations in that regard. However, I do plan to maybe ask at some point in the new year if it’s an option. Would this be a good approach? Any advice is appreciated.
