Game plan/need advice
Hey r/stopsmoking, I am curious if anyone out there has been in my situation and what they did.
I am really hooked on nicotine. I am 30 and started smoking cigarettes regularly over ten years ago. I’ve been close to a pack a day for most of those ten years, maybe a little less.
At one point, probably in the last five years, I got introduced to nicotine pouches like Zyn and On, and have gotten quite the habit out of those too. For a while, they were a great substitute and still can be when I’m at work, on a plane, somewhere I don’t want to stink etc.
I also figured the pouches would help me smoke less. At times they did. But now I’m just hooked on both products. I often throw a pouch in right after a cigarette. I know it’s a ton of nicotine and it’s probably horrible for me. No known health issues right now, though.
I’ve found some recent motivation for quitting smoking, and I want to see it through. Smoking is incompatible with the life I want. I am 1.5 years sober and want to continue to tackle my addictions while I’m still young.
I guess my main question is how do I start. Do I just quit smoking and keep the pouches? Or will that just prolong the cravings? Is it easier to bite the bullet and attempt to go completely nicotine free? Are there people out there who have a hard time tapering and need to go cold turkey?
