Black Swan Graphene's (SWAN.v BSWGF) Plant Floor: Consett Went From 40 to More Than 140 Tonnes a Year, Running Three Shifts Continuously

Posted on behalf of Black Swan Graphene - Most of the attention on Black Swan Graphene (SWAN.v BSWGF) goes to what the material does once it reaches a customer: the concrete pours, the polymer trials, the packaging data. The reason any of that can turn into a business sits in one building in Consett, northeast England, and in one piece of equipment commissioned there in March.

What The Expansion Did

  • Production capacity expansion completed at the Consett, UK facility, more than tripling output (March 18, 2026 NR)
  • Annual manufacturing capacity of more than 140 tonnes of graphene nanoplatelets, up from 40 tonnes prior to the expansion, based on a continuous three-shift operation
  • Industrial flow rates of up to 22,000 litres per hour
  • Centred on a GEA 3160 Ariete System, which has completed calibration and commissioning for continuous operation
  • The company's fourth and largest scale-up to date

Why The Machine Matters

The 3160 is a high-pressure homogenizer customized for Black Swan's proprietary High-Shear Liquid-Phase Exfoliation Process, and the company frames it as the culmination of 12 years of collaboration with GEA (March 18, 2026 NR). The ISO 9001 and 14001 certified plant feeds both the GraphCore nanoplatelet line and the GEM masterbatch range, and the expansion was deliberately sized to keep spare capacity available for customer development programs rather than being fully committed to existing orders.

Consistency Is The Other Half

Industrial buyers care as much about batch-to-batch repeatability as headline tonnes. In its September 21, 2026 update, Paradigm Capital noted that an in-line real-time quality monitoring system for graphene nanoplatelets was installed during Q2. The full expansion details are on the company's news page.

Capacity is rarely the hard part in advanced materials; converting it into repeat industrial orders is. With the first revenue quarter now on the books and Q3 set to be the first full quarter including Falpaco, there's room for the next set of numbers to show how much of that 140-tonne runway is starting to get used.
