One of the more interesting historical spots in Calamba, Laguna is the church located right beside the ancestral house of José Rizal. It’s easy to visit both places in one trip, but seeing them together makes the visit more meaningful.

The church is St. John the Baptist Parish Church, also known as the Calamba Church. It has been part of the community for centuries and is closely connected to the history of Calamba. José Rizal was baptized here, which makes the church an important part of his early life.

Right beside it is the Rizal Shrine, where Rizal’s ancestral house has been reconstructed. The contrast is interesting because one side is a historic church while the other gives visitors a glimpse into the kind of home and environment Rizal grew up around.

What makes the area nice to visit is that it doesn’t feel like a huge tourist attraction. It’s relatively simple, and the historical significance is really the main reason to go. Walking around the church grounds and then visiting the Rizal Shrine makes it easier to appreciate Calamba beyond its modern city life.

It’s also a good stop for anyone exploring Laguna for the first time. There are plenty of places to visit around the province, but sometimes the smaller historical sites are the ones that make a trip more memorable.

If you’re interested in Philippine history, this is definitely one of those places worth putting on a Calamba itinerary. The fact that Rizal’s ancestral home and the church where he was baptized are right beside each other makes the location especially interesting.
