Help! Almost 3 year old - no luck with potty training

Hello!
First time mum here - and am finally getting into potty training my son who is 3 next month.

He is genuinely a chilled out boy, except he is a bit of a picky eater. At first, the toilet terrified him, and the only way I managed to get him to sit on the toilet without undies or a nappy on was with lollies as a reward (no judgement please this is just what has worked).

Now he will sit on it, with lots of hesitation, and what’s happening is he is weeing in his undies/pants and does not seem to care about the wet feeling. But he will tell me immediately that he has done it. And when I ask him where pee and poo goes - he says the toilet, so it isn’t like he doesn’t know.

What are the most common/best potty training methods? I have the holidays as a teacher right now so I’m able to be home but I’ve been keeping him home from his regular daycare too to try and really hone in on this toilet training stuff as it seems as though he is 1 of 3 kids out of about 25 in his kindy room who aren’t toilet trained so I’m feeling a bit beat to be honest although I know I shouldn’t.

Is it bad if I send him for a short (9:30-3:30) day at daycare this week a few times or do you think it’s best I stay home all day with him working on this? And if so what’s the best way forward?
