Adoptive parents who separated during the adoption process: did you continue or stop?

I’m looking for real experiences from adoptive parents who went through something similar.

I was a father figure to four children for about 16 months during an adoption process. My relationship with my partner ended, and because of legal conflict between us, I haven’t been able to see the children for about four months.

I still care about them, but the situation has become emotionally and financially exhausting: lawyers, therapy, legal proceedings, expenses, and constant conflict with my ex-partner.

I’m now questioning whether I genuinely want to continue with the adoption and take on the lifelong parental responsibility, or whether

I’m questioning whether this is still the family life I genuinely want for myself after everything that has happened.

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who actually faced this decision.

Did you continue with the adoption after separating from your partner?

Did anyone decide to withdraw or stop the process?

How did you make that decision, and how do you feel about it now?

I’m not looking for legal advice. I mainly want to hear real personal experiences from people who have been there.
