I feel it was better when idols had defined positions in their groups

OPINIONS

Idk if this counts as harsh

I’ve noticed it’s become less often for groups to have defined positions (Lead vocalist, Lead dancer, Main rapper, Fotg, etc.) - but to be honest, I miss when 1 idol’s strengths were 1-2 things, and another idol has 1-2 other strengths instead of there being this expectation of every member being relatively well-rounded

I get that the idea behind it is probably that idols shouldn't be limited to one role and should be able to develop in multiple areas, which I agree with…to a degree. Not every idol has the capacity to excel in every category, and I don't think having noticeable strengths and weaknesses is a bad thing

BUT I do feel there's something lost when every member is expected to be good at everything. I got into kpop during 3rd gen, I liked seeing how different idols contributed differently; members who are clearly the vocal backbone of the group, members who stood out because of their dancing, members whose visuals attracted new fans, and so on. Idols’ individual strengths complemented each other and made the group feel more balanced

Yeah, there are exceptions and there are plenty of newer groups with members who still have clear specialties. I know Leader/center are still clearly established..Maybe it’s just nostalgia talking, but I guess I miss when there were official positions because thats what Im used to

What do u guys think
