Tank already had 15 Kyathit Danios and 4 Bamboo shrimp, and after a few weeks to mature the tank seemed finally ready for its last group of animals: hillstream loaches! You can see a few of them in the bottom left scouring the rocks. I do love watching their little antics; the way they fight for dominance and crawl over every surface in the tank.

They've been feeding constantly, though I haven't seen them take any of the prepared foods I've dropped in, even the same pellet type they were regularly feeding on at the local pond store I bought them from. The first couple of times I tried to feed them repashy soilent green it got blown away by the current, though maybe they still managed to get some of it. Tonight I'm going to try and prepare it on little terra cotta saucers as recommended by u/Phytoseiidae/.

Unfortunately I lost one within 2-3 days of adding them, though I did not find the carcass until probably a day after it died wedged between some rocks near my intake sponges. It happened far too soon for it to be from starvation. Definitely a bummer, though it was the smallest of the bunch, so it may have already been suffering from something when I got it. I suppose the good news is that the tank can easily absorb the ammonia spike from a decomposing fish over 24 hours with no ill effects to the other animals. Currently I have 7, and it's been about 10 days since they were added.

I also lost another bamboo shrimp after doing a 13% water change (10 gallons) a few days after adding these guys, so I switched instead to changing 5 gallons at a time twice a week, and the surviving shrimp seem fine with that. Last time I checked nitrates before doing a water change, I was hovering at only 5ppm, so I'm pretty happy with that.
