Dalat Supermarket, rude butcher?

Community Post

I usually go with my grandma to Dalat a lot and I’m so disappointed with this recent visit. We bought some pork from them, but when we arrived home and my grandma opened the bag, the pork smelled noticeably foul. We called the store, and they told us to come in to exchange our meat. We reach the meat counter, and my grandmother tells him that we are there to exchange the meat.

The butcher asks us what is wrong with the meat, and she tells him about the smell. He then began to get agitated and tell us that the meat LOOKED fine to him, and that it was a fine cut of meat. That’s just the way pork is. My grandma then tells him to smell it for himself, and he will see what’s wrong with the pork.

That is when things took a turn, and the butcher tells my grandma (in Vietnamese) “Why the hell would I smell the meat? What if you put something harmful or poisonous in it? Don’t tell me to smell the meat. If you want to exchange it then I will exchange it but don’t tell me to smell the meat!” Now I understand the sentiment but I feel like this was a way overreaction to a grandma and her granddaughter. She tells the butcher that she’s not here to argue, just to exchange it.

The last 5 minutes, the butcher gives us attitude while he grabs our new meat. He mumbles under his breath about how this is how the meat will look so dont come back and complain again.

Overall just kinda shocked to see that this is how they treat elderly people here. Disappointed because this is not the usual experience at Dalat.
