[Build Request] $1,100 AUD Gaming PC – 1440p / Minecraft Modpacks
Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice on a new gaming PC and would appreciate some help putting together the best possible build for my budget.
New build or upgrade?
New build. I currently have a GMKtec NucBox K6 mini PC, but I’m looking to move to a proper desktop gaming PC.
Existing parts/monitors to reuse?
I already have an Alienware AW2725DM 27” 1440p high-refresh monitor, so I don’t need a monitor.
I also already have a keyboard, mouse, etc.
PC purpose:
Primarily gaming.
The main games I’m interested in are:
Minecraft with large/heavy modpacks, particularly Crazy Craft
Rocket League
Modern multiplayer games such as Warzone, Fortnite, etc.
Other modern AAA games
Minecraft performance is particularly important to me. I’d like enough CPU/RAM performance to handle large modpacks without excessive stuttering.
Target resolution/performance:
1440p.
I’d like to make good use of my 1440p high-refresh monitor. I’m not necessarily expecting maximum settings/high FPS in every AAA game, but I’d like good 1440p performance and high FPS in less demanding/competitive games.
For Minecraft, I understand that modpacks can still have occasional stutters from chunk generation and mod optimisation, so I’m not expecting literally zero stuttering.
Purchase country:
Australia — Sydney, NSW.
I’m happy to buy online from Australian retailers or pick up locally.
Some retailers I’ve been looking at include Scorptec, Umart, Centre Com, MSY, etc.
Budget:
Around $1,100 AUD, preferably under budget.
I’d be willing to stretch to around $1,200 if there’s a significant performance/quality improvement, but I’d prefer to stay close to $1,100.
The budget is for the PC only — I don’t need a monitor or peripherals.
WiFi or wired connection?
I have Ethernet available and will primarily use wired Ethernet. WiFi is nice to have but isn’t important.
Size/noise constraints:
No major size restrictions. I’d prefer something reasonably quiet, but performance/value is more important than having a tiny or silent PC.
Colour/lighting preferences:
No preference. RGB isn’t important to me.
Other specific needs:
32GB RAM preferred/minimum
1TB NVMe SSD minimum
Dedicated GPU
Good-quality/reputable PSU
Good upgrade path where possible
I’d prefer 2x16GB RAM rather than 4x8GB if DDR4
I’m happy with AMD or Intel
I’m happy with NVIDIA or AMD GPUs
I don’t need Windows included if leaving it out saves a meaningful amount
I’m also open to previous-generation hardware or used parts if that’s the better value.
I’ve been looking at things like Ryzen 5 5600/5600X, Ryzen 7 5700X, RTX 3060 Ti/3070/3070 Ti and RX 6800, but I’m completely open to better suggestions.
I’ve also been seeing used PCs around $1,000–$1,200 with significantly stronger GPUs, so I’m trying to work out whether building new or buying a used PC makes more sense at this budget.
What I’d really appreciate:
If possible, could you recommend a complete parts list with Australian prices and retailers for each component, and explain why you’d choose those parts?
I’d particularly like to know if there’s a better combination than what I’ve been considering.
Thanks
