Do you bring a scanner when looking at a used car?
Went to look at a used crossover this week. It drove fine, there were no warning lights, and I liked it enough to consider making an offer.
I asked if I could plug in my topdon carpal before deciding. The engine check looked clean, but the full-vehicle scan showed a code in the ABS system. I wasn't about to diagnose a car in someone's driveway, and one code doesn't tell me what needs fixing. It did give me something specific to ask about, though.
The seller said they weren't aware of any ABS issue, so I'm holding off until I can get a proper pre-purchase inspection.
If you scan a car before buying it, what findings would make you stop there, and what would you take to a mechanic for a closer look?
