When lightning struck LANSA Flight 508 on Christmas Eve 1971, 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke was thrown from the disintegrating plane and fell 10,000 feet into the Peruvian rainforest. She survived the fall and spent 11 days following a stream until she encountered loggers who took her to safety.
