**20M, stuck between starting my life in Florida or staying in a solar sales career I actually like**
I’m 20 and still in school, and I’m kind of stuck on what direction I should take.
I currently work in residential solar sales as a closer. I’m 100% commission, but I’m doing alright and I actually really like the industry. I like sales, I like the product, and I can see myself getting really good at it over time.
The problem is I’ve wanted to move to Florida for a while and basically start my life down there. I’m much happier there and I really want to make the move while I’m young instead of waiting until I have a bunch of responsibilities tying me down.
The thing that makes it harder is that solar seems like a really good industry to be in where I currently live in NY. Electricity rates are high, there’s a lot of demand, and I’m working for a solid company. From what I’ve seen, the Florida solar market seems a lot more complicated, and there don’t seem to be as many companies I’d actually want to work for.
So I’m basically choosing between:
Staying in NY and continuing to build my career in an industry I genuinely enjoy
Moving to Florida and figuring out my career once I’m there
Trying to find a way to do solar in Florida or work remotely/for a company based elsewhere
I’m only 20 and still in school, so I know I have plenty of time to figure things out. At the same time, I don’t want to look back and wish I had just taken the chance to move when I had fewer responsibilities.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would love to hear what you guys would do or what you wish you had done at my age
ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
