I feel like I ruined my Wuthering Waves experience for myself, and now I don’t even feel like I deserve to play anymore
I honestly don’t really know what to do anymore, so I wanted to talk about this and see if anyone else has experienced something similar.
When I first started playing Wuthering Waves, I was really inexperienced with gacha games. I skipped pretty much all the story, pulled characters randomly without really knowing what I was doing, and didn’t take the time to understand the game or appreciate its characters. Back then, I didn’t think much of it because I was just playing the game.
My brother, on the other hand, is basically a top-tier gacha player. He’s really good at what he does, has a huge majority of the characters, and owns a bunch of C6 characters. Meanwhile, I feel like I have practically nothing compared to him. I know comparing accounts isn’t really fair, but seeing the difference between us makes me feel like I’ve missed out on so much.
The thing is, I started playing ZZZ, and I actually took my time with that game. I watched the story, learned the mechanics, and got attached to the characters. I genuinely fell in love with the game because I gave myself the chance to experience everything instead of rushing through it.
What’s frustrating is that I genuinely LOVE a lot of things about Wuthering Waves. I love the Elden Ring-type atmosphere, the world, the areas they release, and the overall character designs. A lot of the characters look incredible, and I love how the game looks and feels. There are so many things about Wuthering Waves that should make me love it, which makes this whole situation even more frustrating.
Now, when I look back at Wuthering Waves, I feel like I robbed myself of that same experience. I skipped the story, didn’t appreciate the characters, and basically treated the game like a character-collecting simulator. I haven’t even played any of the newer story content, and now I feel terrible whenever I think about going back.
The worst part is that I genuinely feel like I don’t deserve to play this game anymore because of how I approached it. I know that probably sounds stupid, and I know it’s just a video game, but I can’t shake the feeling that I wasted something that could have been special to me. I feel like I didn’t give the game the respect or attention it deserved, and now I’m stuck regretting it.
Even doing my dailies feels disheartening. Every time I log in, I think about all the story I skipped, all the characters I never took the time to appreciate, and how differently I could have experienced the game if I’d just slowed down. I feel almost dirty playing it because I know I could have approached everything differently. It’s like I’m punishing myself for a mistake I made when I didn’t even know any better.
I think what hurts the most is comparing this experience to ZZZ. With ZZZ, I actually took my time, learned about the characters, followed the story, and developed a genuine attachment to the game. It made me realize what I was missing with Wuthering Waves, and now I wish I could go back and experience it all for the first time again.
I know I can technically go back and play the story, but it doesn’t feel the same knowing that I skipped so much in the beginning. I feel like I missed the opportunity to fall in love with the game naturally, and now I’m trying to force myself to care about something I should have given a chance from the start.
At this point, I feel like uninstalling the game completely. Part of me wants to start appreciating the story, exploring the world, and getting attached to the characters. But another part of me feels like I’ve already ruined everything for myself and that I don’t deserve another chance to enjoy it.
Has anyone else ever felt this way about a gacha game? Have you ever regretted how you played a game so much that it made you not want to play anymore? Is it possible to fall in love with a game after you’ve spent so much time playing it the wrong way?
I’d genuinely appreciate some advice because I don’t want to keep forcing myself to play a game that makes me feel this way. I love so many things about Wuthering Waves, and I don’t want my own regrets to be the reason I can’t enjoy it anymore.
I know it’s just a game, but I genuinely feel terrible about how I went about the whole experience, and I don’t know how to move past it.
