Deactivated because I'm not me?
OK... not sure where to start but I am LIVID so this makes my first post on Reddit hoping to get some insight. I signed in to my Dasher app and clicked on DASH NOW but I got this "We must verify your ID before you can dash". So it asks for my valid government issued ID and I oblige by scanning my driver's license. Then it asks for a selfie telling me to turn my head left and then at some point it said to turn my head right which I didn't see right away because I had my head turned left so I couldn't read the new instruction to turn the other way so inevitably the selfie failed because I guess I am supposed to be able to turn my head and read the next instructions through the eyes on the side of my head?? So I get to try again. This time I had a friend of mine come help me read the instructions for me as they come and the second time was successful.
It fails saying that I am not me and my true identity could not be confirmed. WTF?
I go to look for support so I can ask them how am I supposed to verify I am me when the system can't do it properly? I managed to get a do-over so once again I scan the front of my driver's license. It chugs and churns for a minute and then goes over to the selfie portion of the verification. THIS TIME I attempt to make myself look as close to my ID picture as possible but this isn't very easy seeing that my ID picture is going on 13 years old. Yes! The great State of California has been rolling over the same picture it took in 2010 through to my 2015 renewal, and because covid had all the DMV offices closed, my 2020 renewal was again the same picture. So trying to look as close to what I looked like 13 years ago isn't easy at all. I've lost 25 lbs. Hair went from dark brown to gray. Face is somewhat sunken in and skin not as perky as back then so I look a bit different... but aren't these facial recognition programs supposed to be able to tell it is still me despite natural aging changes?? So needless to say I go on with the selfie portion and again...FAIL.
I get an email from Door Dash saying that they cannot confirm my identity so my account will be limited so that I can only access my earnings records but cannot dash or do anything else. They offered me a link to appeal. I appealed attaching a picture of my ID and I took a picture of myself and attached it as well saying:
MY ID IS MINE. MY SELFIE IS ME. I AM ME. I CANNOT CHANGE THAT I AM ME AND MY ID IS A PICTURE OF ME! I CANNOT CHANGE WHO I AM TO BE ME ANY BETTER THAN I AM NOW! PLEASE HAVE A HUMAN REVIEW MY ID AND MY SELFIE PLEASE SO THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO DASH AGAIN. THANK YOU!
I get an email about three days later telling me that they have received the appeal I submitted, it has been reviewed, and they are DEACTIVATING my account! I was urged to review the T&C and the IC Agreement to see what I have done to be deactivated. WHAT!?!? They go on to thank me for my service and that I may reappeal after 90-days.
Now to add insult to l injury, they continue to send me emails about what a great Dasher I am and challenge me to beat my previous numbers and complete more dashes than the previous month, and other solicitations as if I were a current Dasher! I mean, if I am deactivated, shouldn't they stop sending me emails as if I were a DEACTIVATED dasher!??
It has been almost a month now and I still get Dasher emails as if I was a current Dasher, yet when I try to sign in to dash. I get the YOU HAVE BEEN DEACTIVATED screen. I have had nothing but trouble with any issue I have needed support with! Hell, it took me FOUR MONTHS to get them to see that a garnishment they had attached to my earnings had expired in OCTOBER 2022 and they finally acknowledged and stopped docking my pay in MAY 2023 just a week before this random VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY shit popped up and went south thus causing them to deactivate me. It's almost as if they were pissed that I uncovered how incompetent they are because I had to do everything but fly to San Francisco and go to their office and point out they were following a garnishment order that had expired many months ago so they are using this identity thing to effectively get rid of me. All of my numbers are and had always been very good. I've never had a blemish on my record with them. Was receiving Top Dasher month after month allowing me to dash whenever I wanted whether busy or not.
So what do I do when I can't get them to see that my ID is me and I am me and I can't change either of those facts???
Needless to say, I have been evicted from the room I was renting by the week as I was slowly pulling myself out of previous debt issues only to have the rug pulled out from under me by Door Dash and not being able to start another type of gig quickly enough due to the on boarding processes with back ground checks that take time and then not being able to make money again quickly enough so not to fall way behind again in paying back on what I had been using my Door Dash earnings to get caught up on to begin with... I know that didn't make much sense but the end result is that Door Dash has ruined my life now as I type this rant on a beat up Obama phone in the living room of some friends that don't want to see me sleeping in my car, trying to give me a chance to find something to make money again when it just shouldn't have come to this in the first place! The whole support and management system at Door Dash is such a joke I can't believe they haven't collapsed from having inferior infrastructure. I mean you call support and they are so fake with their sympathy of any situation you call them about acting like they know what you are up against when in fact they have no clue whatsoever, it's almost funny. Yeah yeah, stop being sorry that I am having an issue and just tell me what I'm supposed to do so I don't get in trouble.
Anyway, Door Dash has ruined my life because they can't step in and simply be human, letting the computers make final decisions when a human can see that the decision is the wrong decision and overriding the error the computer is making. It makes me sick and sad that they don't give a shit about another person's life.
