Surf Reel Help
Lifelong fisherman from New York here. I’ve been getting more into surf fishing over the years thanks to family in Rhode Island. I mainly fish the spring and fall runs in RI and Long Island Sound, wading beaches.
My Current setup is a Daiwa BG 4500 on an 8’ St. Croix surf rod. It’s served me well, but I’m looking for a reel I can get wet without worrying about it in the surf. The BG is rugged, but it’s taken its fair share of dunks and deep cleanings at this point.
I’m torn between a Tsunami SaltX and a Van Staal in a size equivalent to the BG 4500.
Anyone have experience with either? Looking for recommendations.
Thank you.
