Pleasantly Surprised with SOTD
My shave tonight: Merkur 34c paired with Gillette Permasharp (1st shave) for face and original Leaf with 3 Gillette Permasharp saloon blades (1st shave) for head. TOBS Oud bowl lathered with Razor Emporium badger with only hot water prep and cold water rinse finished with Nivea sensitive aftershave balm.
This was the first time I'd shaved with a 34c paired with a Permasharp. I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and efficient the shave was. I ended up with a DFS++, nearly a BBS shave with very little effort.
I should mention that I recently bought the 34c. I had down selected it long ago when I first started shaving for an EJ D89. I also got 100 packs of Gillette Silver Blues and Bic Chrome Platinums to add to my blade stash.
I took the opportunity to try each of my 10 razors with each of the 6 types of blades in my stash. I use each blade for 3 shaves and shave every other night. My head shave is always the Leaf with GPS. I always use the same brush and TOBS Oud cream with the same prep and finish rinse and balm. Only adding an alum block before the cold rinse if necessary. This way the only difference with each razor is the blade.
I'm hoping to find my favorite blade for each razor. The 34c is only the third razor of 10, and the GPS is the first blade of 6. I still have Personna GEM, Astra Green, Gillette Silver Blue, Bic Chrome Platinum, and Feathers to go. I'm excited to see how well the 34c does with the last 2 shaves on this GPS and how these shaves will compare to the other blades.
The razors in my test pool: Leaf Twig (Personna Gem preferred), Birthday Tech (Astra Green preferred), Merkur 34c, Henson AL13 ++, Edwin Jagger DE89, King C Gillette, VDH TTO, RazoRock Tech copy, Gillette flair tip, and Gillette slim adjustable
