Terran V Zerg starter box balance issues
Is anyone else having trouble with the balance of the forces provided in the starter box? I bought the starter kit to play with my friend. We both enjoyed StarCraft growing up and have played a considerable amount of tabletop game experience (mostly Age of Sigmar), this seemed like a slam dunk.
However, the faction balance has been a real road block for us. We did one game of the “Jane vs Johnny” template as provided by the rules book that came with the starter kit, and I (Terran) got crushed. I thought, ok, we’re both experienced tabletop players, he used burrow well and I didn’t have scanner sweep, so lets try a game where we pick our own upgrades, ill take scanner sweep, and this should be a much closer game.
I got stomped even harder. We reverse engineered the game to assume I took the optimal choice at every given opportunity and could not find a way in which I (Terran) could get a beneficial outcome, much less win the game.
Am I missing something?
This is especially frustrating because my Age of Sigmar army (slaves to darkness) kind of sucks against shooting. So I said to myself, I’m not going to play a charge army again, especially not in a shooting game like StarCraft. Now I find myself getting shot to death in a melee game (AoS) and charged to death in a (theoretically) shooting game (StarCraft tabletop)
Has anyone else found the starter set slanted toward Zerg? Is there any counterplay besides “buy more stuff”?
