Would it be weird to reach out to an old best friend after a year?

I had a best friend for a really long time (11 years), but about a year ago we basically stopped reaching out to each other. There wasn’t some huge fight or dramatic falling-out it was more of an abrupt end where neither of us reached out first, and eventually we just stopped talking.

Lately I’ve been having sooo many dreams about her and thinking about her a lot. I genuinely miss her and still love/care about her, and I’ve been thinking about sending her a message just to say I hope she’s doing well and that I still care about her.

I’m not trying to ask for anything or force the friendship back. If it happens it happens, I just have some things on my chest that I’ve never said. But I’m scared that after a year she’ll think it’s weird that I’m reaching out, or that she’ll read it and not reply.

Would I be dumb for messaging her anyway? Or is it okay to reach out once, say what I need to say, and accept whatever happens afterward?
