Country of Residence Help

I am a UK national who has been living in New Zealand for the last 2.5 years. I’m currently on a Working Holiday Visa so have no certificate of residency.

I have applied for a resident visa (not permanent resident) that should get approved by the time I travel next year.

I want to get the 2 or 3 month continuous pass and would be much better if I could say New Zealand was my country of residence. Would they accept a resident visa despite me having a British passport? For example, if I want to travel in the UK via train.
