Buying A Mazda 3 BK

Hey, Yall:

New Guy here. I would like to buy a used car soon, and I'm thinking of getting a first-gen Mazda 3 BK. I watched videos discussing it and found that it has sort of a mixed-reliability. There are plenty of owners who had their 3s for a very long time, while another channel specifically said that the BKs need "Almost European levels of maintainance.", which I think contains some bias. I have learned that the 2.3s have oil consumption problems, but I don't think it's that big of a deal as it won't destroy the engine and can be easily avoided with regular maintenance. And these BKs are a really common sight in Aussie and New Zealand, so they must have something durable that's holding them up.
