Am I missing something for building in Homeland or is it just that tedious?

I'm loving the game but one huge annoyance is the tedious way to build and place things in Homeland. I don't know if I'm just doing stuff wrong or if I'm missing useful tools/shortcuts but having to do the whole process on Xbox is slow and just so non-user friendly. Having to click the item, click place, drag my cursor to grab the item, line it up and place it, then repeat the entire process for each item is just killing me. I know you can turn on the feature that auto adds the same object after placement but it only works for production stuff, not the decorative stuff. Trying to lay paths/fences is killer. Does anybody have and tips or tricks to be more efficient at building Homeland that will make it less tedious?
