How many exams to schedule on first application?

My application to sit for the exams in California was approved on 7/30 and I’m hoping to schedule my first exam (REG) in the next couple months. Is my understanding of this process correct?

One year to select exam sections for this application (until 7/30/2027)

If I don’t select all 4 this time, will have to submit at least one more application ($50)

For the ones I select now (9/30/26) 90 day timer starts to pay (by 12/30/26)

Once I pay, I’ll get NTS, and have to schedule test(s) within 9 months of NTS date. 

Thinking about taking REG in November, TCP in January, FAR in March, and AUD in June but that might be a stretch, and I'll probably need a couple retakes. It seems like a payment coupon can be used for a retake though.

Wanted to make sure I have this process straight, and also looking for any advice on how many to select on this first application. I’m thinking 2 or 3, but wondering if anyone would suggest something different.
