I just learned what mistress means and I've been using terribly it wrong my whole life

So this entire time I thought that mistress was just another way of saying wife, today i learned that it means a woman you have relations with despite being in a relationship, so every single time I've used the word mistress I was talking about the complete wrong thing and I am absolutely mortified
