**Jennifer Pan Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Her Mother’s Death**

Jennifer Pan has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2010 killing of her mother, Bich Ha Pan, bringing another major development in the infamous Markham, Ontario case featured in Netflix’s *What Jennifer Did*.
Pan was originally convicted of first-degree murder in her mother’s death and attempted murder for the shooting of her father, Hann Pan. In 2025, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld an order for a new trial on the murder charge because the jury had not been properly instructed to consider lesser offences. Her attempted-murder conviction remained in place. ([Global News](https://globalnews.ca/news/11737485/jennifer-pan-manslaughter-guilty-plea/?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

Instead of going through another murder trial, Pan pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March 2026. According to the agreed statement of facts, she admitted plotting to have her father killed but maintained that she did not intend for her mother to die. She acknowledged, however, that she knew or should have known her mother could be home and could be harmed. Pan received another life sentence, running concurrently with the life sentence she is already serving for attempting to kill her father. The major difference is that the manslaughter conviction does not carry the original 25-year minimum parole ineligibility period, meaning she is now eligible to apply for parole. Eligibility does not mean she has been released. ([A&E](https://www.aetv.com/articles/jennifer-pan?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

The case dates back to November 2010, when armed men entered the Pan family home in Markham. Bich Pan was killed and Hann Pan was shot and seriously injured.
