Boyfriend (30M) told me (27F) he only wants to go on dates to make me happy, but not because he actually wants to

So we’ve been together 4 years and living together 1 year. Lately things have been a bit rocky because my boyfriend’s job is really stressful. He gets through the stress by playing video games a lot, so much that he’s on them after work until late at night.

I’ve been trying to be understanding of this even though our quality time has decreased severely. Every time we’ve talked about this, he stresses how important this game is to him and that he will do anything to make it so that I’ll let him play.

I told him pretty clearly I was missing quality time with him and wanted to spend more time together. We started going on dates on the weekend, which are literally 1 MAYBE 2 hours tops. I really enjoy them but right after he’s on the game again so it’s really the only quality time we get all week.

Last weekend we were supposed to go on a date. I made a reservation and everything for Saturday but he told me he wanted to do Sunday instead because of some all day event in the game. I was really apprehensive because he works extra on Sunday and is usually tired after but I agreed.

Sunday comes around and I get home from some errands and my boyfriend is on a break and he tells me actually he doesn’t want to go because he had a big lunch. He says if I really want to go, then he’ll go, but he’d rather not. I saw this coming so just kind of shut down and said yeah because I don’t want to go out with someone who is only there reluctantly.

We spent no time together and he was on his phone during dinner. On Monday I sort of broke down and started crying because now I have to wait an entire week just to spend time with him. He saw this and felt bad and asked me what was wrong and I expressed what it was, but he got frustrated because I had said it was okay.

I said I understood and maybe shouldn’t have said that but I don’t want to go out with someone who rather not. Then he said he only goes on dates to make me happy so it’s up to me to advocate and push for them instead of saying I don’t want to go.

I said I am not going to go on dates someone doesn’t really want to go on. To me that is humiliating. I said I stopped nagging him about the game and let him play all day. He got sad and said I really need to just advocate for it so I’m not the only one compromising and he feels bad that I’m the only one compromising.

Idk… I just feel so sad. I’ve decided to just stop the dates and if there’s something I really want to do, I’ll just do it alone. It’s not worth it. But I can’t tell if this is a reasonable position to take, I feel like the way he’s making it out to be makes it sound horrible but I’m in my feelings.

Tl;dr: boyfriend and I hardly have any free time except for one weekly date. Boyfriend cancelled a date. I expressed sadness at this, he told me I should have pushed for it if I really wanted to go, then admits he only goes on dates to make me happy. Will not be going on more dates, not sure what to do.
