I dreamt a place with six rules, and the fourth one was the one that made it work

Not a Weather Factory thing — but this sub was suggested to me and having read a bit here I think I see why, so I'll risk it.

A week ago I dreamt a place you arrive at after falling asleep. You have a whole day there. At the end of it you sleep again, and that second sleep takes you somewhere real on Earth for the night, with whoever you chose to go with. Then you wake up at home.

The place posts six rules on a board and explains none of them:

  1. Please keep to the class timetable.
  2. Where you sleep is your choice. Your things sleep with you.
  3. Where you go tonight is decided by you and your team.
  4. You may not say where you slept last night.
  5. When the night ends you leave that night.
  6. What you show people is your choice.

I woke up and wrote them down, and it took me a few hours to work out why the fourth one was there.

You don't use your real name in that place. Your real identity only comes out when two people both choose to reveal it. But your luggage is real, and whoever you sleep near can see it. So where you slept isn't information about a bed. It's evidence of intimacy that bypassed consent — proof you let someone see you before you agreed to be known.

Take rule four away and the whole place collapses into a ranking of who got invited where. It's the only load-bearing rule, and it's the only one phrased as a prohibition.

I've written the rest of it up since, but honestly the rules are the part I can't stop thinking about — a dream produced a consent mechanic and hid the reason for it three layers down.

Has anyone else had a dream hand them a working rule like that? I'm still not sure whether I invented it or just noticed it.
